In Kitgum in Northern Uganda April to July is known as the
‘Killing Season’. That’s when the rains come and mosquitoes
breeding in stagnant pools begin transmitting malaria – a
deadly parasitical disease. In theory, malaria is easily
treated with drugs known as ACTs. But in Uganda – as in
other parts of Africa and Asia – the drugs are not getting
to hospitals and clinics in time, resulting in scores of
needless deaths. The Killing Season shows what happens when
public health systems break down and life-saving drugs fail
to reach the most vulnerable people in society. A 46'
documentary by Mark Honigsbaum, Tom Williams and Daniel
Nikolaison.
